Cherry Tree House, a Grade B listed gatehouse at the entrance to the Drummond Hill estate, has been carefully refurbished and extended to balance historic character with contemporary living. The project integrates the retained stone structure with a new single-storey addition, connected by a full-height glazed hallway that establishes a clear junction between old and new.

The extension creates a large open-plan kitchen, dining, and snug area, designed around a central island and opening to the garden through floor-to-ceiling glazing. A separate lounge, also with full-height windows, draws natural light deep into the plan and provides framed views of the surrounding landscape.

The accommodation includes four bedrooms, two with en-suites, together with a further shower room, WC, utility, and storage spaces. Materials and detailing were chosen to respect the scale and setting of the original gatehouse, while allowing the new elements to read as distinctly modern.

Externally, the original boundary walls were retained, enclosing landscaped gardens and a new driveway leading to a semi-detached double garage. Passive design strategies maximise daylight and strengthen the connection between interior and exterior, ensuring the historic fabric and contemporary extension work in harmony.
