The Orkney Distillery

Located in the heart of Kirkwall, this purpose-built craft gin distillery and visitor centre introduces a contemporary new landmark to the town. The project transforms a former store site on Ayre Road / Burnmouth Road, enhancing the streetscape with thoughtful boundary treatments, street-corner landscaping, and on-site parking.

The facility combines production areas with exhibition, retail, and immersive visitor spaces, alongside attached storage, offering a complete and engaging visitor experience. The design carefully balances modern functionality with sensitivity to its urban context, creating a building that is rooted in place, visually striking, and welcoming — a new destination at the centre of Kirkwall.
